Ontario clubs celebrate FIS World Snow Day!

Soo Finnish
The 5th Annual Hiawatha SnowFest was held Sunday January 19th, 2020 and was a registered World Snow Day event. The event attracted approximately 200 individuals and families signed up for a fun filled day of cross country ski and fat biking loppets with distances for all ages and abilities, from 1 k to 30 k and trails marked accordingly. We had one person who even did the 5k snowshoe run! As part of the event, there were guided and self-guided snowshoe tours. There was a mass start at 11 AM with staggered starts according to activity and length. Participants were welcome to start their loppet anytime after 11 AM up until 1 PM. Along the trails were two “cookie stops” serving cookies, hot chocolate or hot grape juice. It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day with blue skies and sunshine for the whole event. As the loppet participants came to the finish line, they were greeted with music and volunteers cheering them on. All received a snowflake cookie “medal” as a reward. Many went back into the trails to continue enjoyment of them, some switching from one activity to another. After being out on the trails, everyone was invited into the Sugar Shack to enjoy a delicious hearty lunch, snacks and hot beverages. Our volunteers did an outstanding job!

Here is a link to an article in the local news with some photos.

Lappe Nordic
Lappe Nordic celebrated World Snow Day with Families on Skis. The skies were sunny and the temperatures pleasant for the families who were treated to trail tours, skill stations, free rentals, discounted trail passes and a sparkle station for the kids. The famous Lappe pancakes were on the grill in the kitchen and the saunas were hot.

Highlands Nordic
Highlands Nordic served up hot chocolate to over 60 people and all enjoyed a bonfire and a cookie distance challenge. Draw prizes and cookies were the enticement to complete a 3 km or 7 km loop. The trails were decorated with huge cookies to keep everyone moving and motivated. The firepit with hot chocolate, marshmallows roasting and cookie eating was the place to be apres ski. With fresh snow, the day was magical!
