NTDC Athletes Step Into Coaching Roles Thanks to NCDF Support
Cross Country Ski Ontario (XCSO) is proud to share the success of a recent coach development initiative made possible through the Nordiq Canada Development Fund (NCDF). With funding support from NCDF, eight NTDC Thunder Bay athletes completed NCCP L2T coaching courses this season.
These high-performance athletes are now using their new skills to coach at provincial camps, support club programming, and mentor younger skiers across Ontario. The experience not only strengthens the provincial coaching network but also provides NTDC athletes with leadership experience, professional development, and meaningful ways to give back to the sport.
“It was really rewarding to step into the coaching role and give back to younger athletes. I’ve learned a lot about long-term development and what helped me succeed—now I get to pass that on.”

This initiative supports multiple goals of XCSO’s strategic plan: expanding the coaching pathway, fostering leadership among high-performance athletes, and increasing alignment between club, provincial, and national team environments.
XCSO and NTDC sincerely thank the Nordiq Canada Development Fund for their contribution to this initiative. Their support helps develop not only future national team athletes, but also the next generation of great Canadian coaches.
