Katie McMahon Hired as XCSO Performance Coach
Cross Country Ski Ontario is excited to announce the hiring of Katie McMahon as the XCSO Performance Coach beginning on May 4. Welcome to the XCSO Team Katie!
Originally from Chelsea Québec, Katie is making her way back East to join the excellent coaching team at Cross Country Ski Ontario. From being pulled along in a pulk by her parents through the Gatineau Park, to racing around on the NCD circuit, NorAms and Nationals; the Canadian ski community has played a huge part in Katie’s upbringing. After completing her degree in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa, Katie accidentally fell into coaching and has never looked back. What began as a way to give back to her community developed into coaching career that began with Chelsa Nordique and was followed up with many high performance coaching development opportunities including a European B-Tour and World Junior Championships.
This past year, Katie completed a part-time internship with the Canadian National Ski Team connecting her with the best national and international athletes, administrators and coaches. She gained experience coaching on the World Cup and was the Lead Coach for the Canadian squad at the 2020 Youth Olympic Games, in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Katie brings a unique perspective to her coaching, sharing qualifications and experience in both cross country skiing and biathlon as well as a Master’s degree in Intervention and Consultation. Along with her coaching, Katie works as a Mental Performance Consultant and is a Professional Member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association. She is also an active member of Nordiq Canada’s Women’s’ Committee.
To briefly summarize her coaching philosophy, Katie’s goal is to create an environment in which her athletes feel safe, inspired and motivated to strive towards their personal excellence and contribute towards team excellence. Hard work, lots of laughs, sparkles and high fives!
