Volunteer of the Year Award

Cross Country Ski Ontario is pleased to announce that Shawn Sinclair of Highlands Trailblazers is the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Shawn was integral to the organization of the Ontario Winter Games at Horseshoe Valley.  In a week that saw freezing temperatures change to a major melt, Shawn, as Chief of Course re-designed the course overnight ensuring that a race could happen.   Thank you Shawn for your dedication to Ontario athletes and our ski community.  The Volunteer of the Year award is presented each year at the XCSO Annual General Meeting.  This year the AGM will take place on Sunday, May 13th at Highlands Nordic.

Ontario Winter Games Venue UPDATE

Weather continues to present challenges to race organizers this season.  The Chief of Competition and Chief of Course completed an assessment of the Horseshoe and will be moving the races to the alpine portion of the Horseshoe facility.  Due to snowmaking all season the base is very good.  Courses will be modified to include some climb portions of the downhill runs and will be a multi-lap race.  All athletes will be able to pre-ski the course beginning at 1pm on Wednesday, Feb 28.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  The race techniques will be flipped to CLASSIC SPRINTS  on Thursday & FREE TECHNIQUE interval start on Friday.

Cold Weather Plan for MSA – Update!

January 5th – Cold weather has forced organizers to change the schedule in MSA.  As previously reported, the race on Monday, January 7th will be an Ontario Cup race.  Ontario Team criteria will be reviewed and adjusted as necessary.

December 31st -The current forecast for Mont Sainte Anne is for cold weather for Saturday, January 6th and Sunday, January 7th which could impact the Ontario Cup races. We are all at the mercy of the weather – please be advised that should either days race be cancelled, the race that will occur on Monday, January 8th will be an Ontario Cup race and will count for Ontario Cup Points.

We are letting everyone know now so that appropriate planning can take place should teams who were not planning on staying on Monday decide to stay and race on Monday.
