Ontario’s Proof of Vaccination

Cross Country Ski Ontario has received details from the Government of Ontario on proof of vaccination.  We are reviewing O.Reg 645/21 and accompanying guidance.  We will be updating our Return to Sport Protocol to reflect the current government regulations.  We encourage the ski community to follow public health guidelines.  More information on vaccines is HERE.

Coupe Skinouk Rollerski race – Sept 18/19, 2021

After a one-season hiatus because of COVID-19 in 2020, the Coupe Skinouk Rollerski will be back this year. The information regarding the event has not all been finalized but Club Skinouk suggests that you reserve the dates of September 18 and 19, 2021 in your calendar in order to participate or to encourage people around you to participate. You can be also a volunteer!

Ontario to Move to Step Two of Roadmap to Reopen on June 30

Ontario is moving to Step 2 on June 30 at 12:01am (with the exception of Waterloo Region).  The regulation for Step 2 is available HERE.  Highlights include:

  • No limits on group size for sports
  • Cohorts are not required for group training
  • Games and  sports which may result in personal contact are not permitted – Incidental contact during sport should be avoided

XCSO is reviewing our current Return to Sport document and anticipate small changes based on the public health guidelines as vaccination rates increase and case numbers decrease.

Ontario to Move to Step One of Roadmap to Reopen on June 11

Ontario is moving to Step 1 on June 11 at 12:01am – the regulation regarding Step 1 is not yet available, however, once it is published and reviewed, XCSO will provide further guidance if necessary.  Please note during Step 1 the following is permitted:

  • Outdoor sports training (no games or practices), fitness classes and personal training up to 10 people

Questions or concerns with respect to implementation at the local level should be directed to your local public health unit.

XCSO hires District Development Coordinators

XCSO is excited to announce the hiring of 3 of 4 District Development Coordinators.

Southern Ontario District will be led by Coach Bryan Dubeau. Bryan is a Competition Development Certified Coach who has led Team Canada at the 2019 FISU Games. Katherine Denis will lead the National Capital District. Katherine, a T2T coach, currently coaches with Nakkertok and competed as a varsity athlete with U Ottawa Nordiq and at the 2019 FISU Games. Lake Superior Ski District will have Katherine Hall at the helm. Katherine coaches with Lappe Nordic and competed as a varsity athlete with Lakehead University. The District Development Coordinators will be tasked with reaching out to clubs in their districts to engage and facilitate the development of coaches, athletes and parents in the sport of cross country skiing.

Club/Team Group Training Update

The following provides guidance to clubs/teams:

Present [Stay at home rules] – no group activities, individual exercise permitted
June 2 [Shutdown Zone rules- if Stay at Home is rescinded] – no group activities, individual exercise permitted
June 14 [Assuming Health indicators ] – “Step 1” Rules: Outdoor sports – training only, 10 people max, 3m distance

The regulation regarding Step 1 is not available and likely won’t be until late next week. Once it is published and reviewed, XCSO will provide further guidance.

Reminder – Deadline for Team Ontario Development is June1

Reminder to athletes and coaches! Team Ontario – Development applications are due June 1, 2021. Register at Zone4.ca

Due to the effects of the ongoing and evolving COVID-19 pandemic, Cross Country Ski Ontario has reviewed and modified provincial programming for the 2021-22 season. Given the unpredictable outlook for the season, particularly for “in-person” training camps, XCSO has modified our programming to reflect “what we can do”.  Full details available here

Southern Ontario District

SOD is Hiring- Team Coach & Coordinator

SOD is seeking a new Coach and a new Coordinator for the SOD Race Team. We thank outgoing SOD Team Coach Madison Fraser for her enthusiastic work and wish her the best as she returns to school. We also thank Team Coordinator Scott Dowling for his support and organization of logistics/communication for the team.

About the SOD Team

The team is named to recognize and support the development of athletes racing the SOD races. The goal of the SOD Team is to support these athletes to begin to race competitively on the Ontario Cup circuit and to prepare to qualify for the Ontario Ski Team. The SOD Team targets athletes aged 13 through 16.  The SOD executive believes that promotion of an active ski racing circuit within SOD will strengthen the ski community by providing opportunities for skiers to come together as a community in fun and friendly competition.

SOD Team Coordinator

The SOD Team Coordinator is responsible for the administration of the team, including team selection, clothing, athlete communication, assisting the coach with planning team training camps, and promoting the SOD Paraffin Race Series.  The SOD Team Coordinator will be an ex-officio (non-voting) member of the board.

SOD Team Coach

The SOD Team Coach is to plan and deliver training camps for members of the SOD Team, with support from the coordinator as needed.  The SOD Team Coach must have, at a minimum, NCCP certification level of L2T-trained.

2020/2021 Nordiq Canada race license information for athletes

The 2020/2021 Nordiq Canada race license application will remain open until June 1, 2021.  Please read here to understand the implications for athletes for the 2021/2022 competitive season. 2020/2021 Nordiq Canada race licenses are not required for Team Ontario programming.
