Cross Country Ski Ontario is pleased to announce Kieran Jones of Nakkertok Nordic as the recipient of the Heinz Niederhauser Outstanding Coaching Award. Kieran’s passion for coaching is demonstrated through his dedication and commitment to athletes of all abilities. “Kieran is human embodiment of the quote ‘a good coach can change the [race], a great coach can change a life’. Kieran has had an indescribable impact on the lives of his athletes. Kieran has worked with athletes across the whole development spectrum. He promises every athlete he’d do what he could to help them achieve their goals; and in the process, he’d guided many to realize that cross-country skiing and cross-country ski racing is a large part of their life and something, no matter what the results sheet looked like at the end of the day, that they would continue.” Heinz would approve!

On Sunday April 28, Mono Nordic athletes, coaches and parents gathered to celebrate a successful 2018-19 season. Bryan Dubeau (High Performance Committee, Cross Country Ontario) awarded junior racers with Mono Nordic’s first-ever provincial championship banner, won at the Ontario Youth Championships in North Bay in February. Thanks to Bryan Dubeau making the trip to personally award this banner and for taking time to talk with athletes about racing at the national and international levels. Mono’s racers also competed as a team in 5 district and provincial races, including Mono’s own ‘Invitational’. These races resulted in 7 Mono Nordic racers making the Southern Ontario District Team (the 30 top junior racers in Southern Ontario). This year we congratulate Theo DeGroote, Meghan Rogers, Levi Dittman, Jerome Dittman, James Rowan, and Thomas Beukeboom in making this team.
